A Gin Cocktail for Non-Gin Drinkers?
Happy Friday! As we do, we are sharing another diet-friendly and low-sugar cocktail. You can actually make this with vodka or gin, but I highly recommend the latter. This is a gin cocktail that I give to people who say they don't like gin. As with many of my drink recipes, this one is dangerous. Pace yourself. And don't forget the Intox-Detox!
Remember that you can leave out the cucumber and basil if that's too frou-frou for you. Both have naturally healthy and detoxifying effects in the body, if you're into that sort of thing:)
Cucumber Basil Gin Gimlet
What you need:
- 3 oz Catoctin Creek Gin (or vodka)
- 2 oz Truvia Simple Syrup
- 1.5 oz Fresh-squeezed Lime Juice
- 3-4 Basil Leaves
- 2 Cucumber Slices
- 1 Lime Wedge
What to do:
For the gin, we have been going small batch and LOCAL with Catoctin Creek Distilling Company, which is made right up the road in Purcellville Virginia. If you really can't do gin, Tito's vodka is a good replacement. I make my Truvia simple syrup with the Keurig, (without a coffee pod) to dispense hot water. Two packs of sweetener per ounce of water works great. For me, that's 8 packs with 4 oz of hot water. Alternatively, you can boil the water. Stir thoroughly. Add all ingredients to a shaker with ample ice. Make sure to "crack" or break up the basil leaves and a cucumber slice. (You can also add them to the simple syrup) Shake for 30 to 45 seconds and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a lime wedge, cucumber wheel and basil leaf.
Like most of our awesome drink recipes, if you make this at a party, you will become bartender for the night!
